The Trade Remedies Department, citing a notice from the Australian Anti-Dumping Commission (ADC) and the Vietnamese Trade Office in Australia, announced on April 7th that the Australian Government had received a request to initiate an anti-dumping investigation into galvanized steel products imported from Vietnam and South Korea.

The products are classified under the following tariff codes: 7210.49.00, 7212.30.00, 7225.92.00, and 7226.99.00.

Currently, the Commission is reviewing the issues raised in the request to determine whether the request provides a reasonable basis for issuing a notice to initiate an anti-dumping investigation.

Under Australian law, a decision on whether to proceed with the investigation must be made on or before April 20th.

The Trade Remedies Department recommends that relevant exporting businesses proactively monitor the developments of the case and prepare contingency plans. First, they should review all export activities related to the investigated product codes, especially data on selling prices and production costs.

In addition, businesses should proactively coordinate with the Trade Remedies Department to update information and consider hiring experienced international legal consultants specializing in anti-dumping cases to prepare appropriate documentation and arguments should the case be initiated.

Furthermore, businesses should reassess their market strategy, diversify export markets to minimize the risk of dependence on a single market, and develop business scenarios in case anti-dumping duties are imposed. Proactive preparation will help businesses minimize adverse impacts and enhance their ability to protect their legitimate rights.
