Steel Prices on the Exchange

The global commodities market has seen mixed signals in recent trading sessions. On the Shanghai Futures Exchange, the price of April 2026 rebar futures rose slightly by 0.35%, reaching 3,146 yuan/tonne. Conversely, iron ore prices faced downward pressure, falling 1.94% on the Dalian Commodity Exchange to 807.5 yuan/tonne. Similarly, in Singapore, iron ore prices also declined, trading around $107.71/tonne.

Notably, despite the decline in spot prices, long-term iron ore futures contracts are experiencing strong growth. The main driving force comes from concerns about tightening supply after China tightened import regulations for BHP. Simultaneously, expectations of a recovery in hot pig iron production in the country are providing positive support for futures contracts.

The outlook for steel prices in 2026 is strongly influenced by China's regulatory policies. Plans to reduce steel production capacity have been announced to improve profit margins and support price increases. However, the market still faces three major challenges.

Overall, today's steel prices are currently fluctuating between production cuts and weakening demand due to macroeconomic instability.
